Dating again to the 1500s, it is amongst the best-preserved stone forts within the country. There are rotating displays contained in the fortress and it is free to enter. It has an extended army history with it constantly being maintained from the 1500s to 1700. In 1665, a fantastic battle was fought here between the British and Dutch with Bergen supporting the Dutch in the course of the Battle of Vågen.
